Benfica – Conveyor Belt to the Stars | Ep14: One final push – Season 5 Review | Football Manager 2019 Stories

Hello and welcome back to the final episode of this challenge, the challenge to win the Champions League with a team of only U21 players. In the first four seasons our Benfica team have managed to reach the quarter-final twice, but it had never felt particularly close to us lifting the trophy. We simply haven’t been good enough compared to the biggest teams in Europe. This season however, Benfica and manager Ronaldo make one final push for the title with the best squad yet! Benfica – Conveyor Belt to the Stars | Ep13: I did it my way | Football Manager 2019 Stories

“And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain”

Season 5. We are approaching the final season of our challenge to win the Champions League with a team consisting entirely of U21 players. Before we dive into the adventures of our final season let’s sit back and look at how we’ve done so far. Perhaps you’re new to the series and want a “quick” recap or perhaps you’re a loyal reader and just want to enjoy it all over again. Benfica – Conveyor Belt to the Stars | Ep12: Season 4 review – Let’s fast forward | Football Manager 2019 Stories

Introduction

I still love playing this Benfica challenge, but three to four seasons into the series the writing has grown a bit stale. It feels like we’re basically repeating the same season review all over again, which gets a bit boring. Benfica – Conveyor Belt to the Stars | Ep10: FM19 is NOT a Collectable Card Game | Football Manager 2019 Stories

In the last post I highlighted the problem of quite a lot of our younger players not getting enough game time because there were simply too many players in the B and U19 squads. This has become a much bigger problem overnight! Continue reading

Benfica – Conveyor Belt to the Stars | Ep9: A tactical analysis – Attackers| Football Manager 2019 Stories

Hi and welcome back to the third and final part in my attempt to analyze the tactic we used in the 2019/20 season, focusing on our three attackers. We’ll start by looking at our Inside Forwards, and then look at the lone striker and finish it all of with a bit of an analysis to tie it all up. In this final part I also became a bit creative/”wild and crazy” with the stats in an attempt to create a better measurement for offensive output. Continue reading

Benfica – Conveyor Belt to the Stars | Ep8: A tactical analysis – Midfielders | Football Manager 2019 Stories

Hi and welcome back to another plunge into our tactic! In the last post we focused on the defenders and noticed a few things that might help improve the tactic. This time around we’ll take a look at our midfield trio starting with the DLP. Continue reading
