The Bromma Boys #12 | 2021 Academy Report | An FM18 Story

Welcome to another post in our Brommapojkarna series! We’ve already seen how BP performed in the 2021 season, so let’s now take a look at our academy players and how they have progressed in the 2021 season. If you missed the previous post about our academy players, go back and check it out here.

The Bromma Boys | 2021 Academy Report

Without the financial possibilities to make improvements to our youth setup we’ve been forced to try to improve elsewhere. For the last couple of years we’ve been focusing heavily on bringing in experienced players not for the purpose of using them in the first squad but for tutoring.

We’ve been looking for players with great personalities and/or nice mental stats in order to use them as tutors. Important mental attributes are Determination and the hidden attributes Professionalism and Ambition. We have been able to sign some nice tutors, which means that we now have tutors with the following personalities:

  • Perfectionist (Very Good to Excellent Determination, Professionalism and Ambition)
    Ruud Boymans (age 32)
  • Model Professional (Excellent Professionalism)
Mark Noble (34) and Alberto Zapatar (36)
  • Professional (Very Good Professionalism)
Anthony Annan (35), Christian Reginiussen (33), Elja Heiskanen (29)
  • Resolute (Good to Excellent Determination and Professionalism)
    Gustav Sandberg Magnusson (29)

The Academy

At the end of 2021, we have fourteen 5 star potential players and seven 4.5 star potential players aged 21 or younger at the club. Two of them, Fedorov and Fredriksson, are out on loan at the end of the year and young Canadian Mirabelli just arrived at the club late December.

The screenshot to the right shows all of our academy players who are either 4.5 or 5 star potential players.

As per usual we divide the players into the three different Development phases mentioned in the “Welcome to the Talent Factory” episode:

Development phase 1 – 15-17 years old

Phase 1

Players in the 1st stage of development

Nothing exceptional. Jensen looks the best out of the bunch, while Nordin will need to improve massively in order to ever play for the club.

In honour of soon-to-be legendary podcasters GrassNGear, we also decided to nickname two of our best players from this season’s youth intake Grass and Gear. (Original, right?)

  • Carl Bergqvist – Aka Grass
Y2 Bergqvist 21

Carl Bergqvist | Grass

From: Youth intake 2021
Comment: Looks like a fairly quick nice little forward. Nice dribbling, finishing and heading. Severely lacking in Passing (3) though, which is something we’ll need to address in coming seasons.
BP Style Rating: 39.00
Prediction: He will spend the first couple of seasons in the U19s, working on improving his attacking skills (mainly passing) and physical attributes. With a 4 to 5 star potential I hope that long-term he will develop into a player for our first team.

  • Hampus Erlandsson – Aka Gear
Y2 Erlandsson 21

Hampus Erlandsson | Gear

From: Youth intake 2021
Comment: A nice 4 to 5 star potential goalkeeper! Lacking some balance and technical abilities, such as passing and first touch, but shows nice Determination!
Prediction: Looks really decent for a 16 year old. Considering our lack of good keepers, he might get the chance rather soon if we get injuries to the first team keepers.

  • Johan Nordin
Y2 Nordin 21.png

Johan Nordin | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Youth intake 2021
Comment: A pacy central defender heavily lacking in heading, which is a problem. Another problem is his Unambitious personality and his poor Determination. He has some nice defensive skills and looks ok physically.
BP Style Rating: 28.33
Prediction: He has a long way to go if he is ever going to play first-team football for us. He has a 3.5 to 4.5 star potential, but I doubt that he’ll live up to it considering his low Determination and Unambitious personality. Next season he’ll spend in the U19s.

  • Dan Jensen
Y Jensen 21

Dan Jensen | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Swedish Premier Division side GIF Sundsvall (€200K) in 2021
Comment: A quite determined quick attacking midfielder. Looks a bit weak, bot physically and mentally, but seems pretty well-rounded for his age.
BP Style Rating: 43.00
Prediction: He comes in with a nice BPS Rating and with a Fairly Determined personality he’ll hopefully improve quite a bit straight from the start. Has the potential to make it into the first team long-term.

Development phase 2 – 18-19 years old

Phase 2

Players in the 2nd stage of development

Here we find some really nice talent, with Lewis Park as the leader of the pack. He comes in with a new record high BPS Rating of 55.33!

  • Yves Karamoko
Y2 Karamoko 21.png

Yves Karamoko | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Ivorian side ASEC (€150K) in 2021
Comment: A well-rounded right back with a bit of pace. Not afraid to put in some hard work for the team.
BP Style Rating: 44.33
Prediction: He comes in with a great season of first-team football behind him, playing 43 games for Ivorian side ASEC both in the national league as well as in continental competitions. I have high hopes for this player who will most likely get some first team football straight away.

  • Albin Wahlberg
Y2 Wahlberg 21.png

Albin Wahlberg | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Youth intake 2020
Prediction 2019: “Will need to work on his speed and technical and mental weaknesses in order to become a first team player in a position lacking of competition”
Result: Played 56(!) games for the U19s/U21s scoring 5 goals and earning an average rating of 7.26.
Development: Nice development with +1s and +2s all over the board. Nice +3 increase in Agility and +4 in Strength.
BP Style Rating: 41.67 (Up 4.67)
Prediction: He is coming closer to getting some serious game-time at left back, a position we really lack players at.

  • Jan Kroon
Y2 Kroon 21.png

Jan Kroon | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Youth intake 2019
Prediction 2020: “Far far away from first team football”
Result: 45 games for the U19s/U21s resulted in 14 goals, 15 assists and an average rating of 7.71.
Development: Really nice development with a couple of +1 increases and a lot of +2s. +3s in Crossing, Pace and Stamina and a +4 in Strength. Also improved his personality from Fairly Sporting to Balanced.
BP Style Rating: 43.33 (Up 7.67)
New prediction: He has seen some nice improvements over the season, coupled with some quality in youth games. Our hopes have risen since last season, but he’s still far away from first-team football.

  • Martin Högberg
Y2 Högberg 21

Martin Hogberg | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Swedish Premier League side IFK Norrköping (€100K) in 2020
Prediction 2020: “He will need to improve everything in order to become a first team player”
Result: Played 46 games for the U19s/U21s, with an impressive 34 goals and 34 assists and an average rating of 8.13!
Development: Impressive improvements all around. At least +1 improvement in all attributes, but mostly better; +2s in First Touch, Heading, Tackling, Technique, Anticipation, Composure, Concentration, Decisions, Off the Ball, Positioning, Workrate, Balance and Jumping Reach, +3s in Corners, Dribbling, Long Shots, Long Throws, Marking, Penalty Taking, Vision and Acceleration, +4s in Crossing, Finishing, Agility and Stamina and an insane +8 improvement in Strength!
BP Style Rating: 43.00 (Up 8.00)
New prediction: Fantastic results on the pitch in youth games and a really impressive development. The competition out on the right wing is fierce to say the least, but it’s not out of the question that he’ll get at least a couple of games off the bench in 2022.

  • Mikael Holmqvist
Y2 Holmqvist 21

Mikael Holmqvist | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Swedish 3rd tier team Varberg (€2.8K) in 2021
Comment: A nice defender with decent physical attributes. Will need a bit of work on his Skill and Perception in order to fit in.
BP Style Rating: 36.00
Prediction: Already decent in the defensive department, but will need to improve in all other areas. Will get his games in the U19s coming season, hopefully developing enough to be in contention for a spot in our first team sooner than later!

  • Andreas Mirabelli
Y2 Mirabelli 21.png

Andreas Mirabelli | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Came in as a free agent after being released from MLS side Toronto FC in 2021
Comment: Nice technical abilities combined with a great physique. The only issue, which is quite a big one, is the Unambitious personality with a Determination of 2.
BP Style Rating: 40.33
Prediction: Looks exciting and has bags of potential. If we can manage to tutor up his Determination he might fulfill it as well!

  • Haidar Salem Gatea
Y2 Gatea 21.png

Haidar Salem Gatea | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Youth intake 2019
Comment: Been with the club for two seasons but hasn’t been covered here, since I’ve previously only done the ones with 5 star potential. Haidar is a decent midfielder with 3.5-4.5 star potential who spent the last season on loan at Swedish 3rd tier club Skellefteå. Decent attacking skill, but lacking mentally.
BP Style Rating: 40.00
Prediction: Looks ok, but will need to improve, especially in the mental department, in order to become a first team player at BP.

  • Lewis Park
Y2 Park 21

Lewis Park | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Australian academy FFA COE (Free) in 2021
Comment: Wow! A player truly personifying the BP Style! No obvious weaknesses even though the technical aspect of his game could use some improvement. What a gem to get in for free! Played 23 games for the first team in 2021 with 6 goals and 8 assists to his name.
BP Style Rating: 55.33
Prediction: Coming in at a record-breaking BPS Style of 55.33 at the age of 18 I feel that the sky is the limit for this guy. Already amazing, but still has some improvement left in him! Will probably play like a 100 games for Australia or something like that!

  • Lado Archvadze
Y2 Archvadze 21.png

Lado Archvadze | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Georgian side Torpedo Kutaisi (€16K) in 2021
Comment: A nice little striker. Well rounded with a nice first touch! Played 3 games for the first team, then went on loan to Allsvenskan side Jönköping Södra where he scored 3 goals in 8 games.
BP Style Rating: 51.33
Prediction: Pretty good, but not good enough to be the starting man up-front. Will either be used as a back-up or go out on another loan spell to see if he can improve enough to challenge Gustav Lorshag for the spot up-front.

  • Dejan Vuckic
Y2 Vuckic 21.png

Dejan Vuckic | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Slovenian First league side Olimpija (€100K) in 2021
Comment: A central defender good defensively and physically, but far from being a true BP Style player. Lacking both in Skill and Perception. Played 2 games for the first team in 2021.
BP Style Rating: 34.00
Prediction: Since we barely have any defenders he will get some games for the first team straight away. Good defensively, but will need to improve his technical attributes in order to become a long-term player for us.

  • Niclas Berglund
Y N Berglund 21.png

Niclas Berglund | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Youth intake 2019
Prediction 2020: “Will likely get some game-time in the coming season”
Result: Had a more normal season in 2021 compared to his insane debut season. Played 27 games for the first team, both as a central defender and right back, averaging 7.04.
Development: This season he apparently showed up to training at least, compared to last season where he didn’t improve a single attribute. Decent development with a lot of +1s and a nice +2 improvement in Composure.
BP Style Rating: 45.00
Prediction: Starting to look like a half decent defender. Considering his young age I’m hoping for a lot more improvements. He’ll get some serious game-time in 2022.

  • Andriy Fedorov
Y Fedorov 21

Andriy Federov | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Joined the club as a free agent in 2021. No previous club.
Comment: Well rounded midfielder without any real strength or weakness. Came in for free. Already capped for the Ukrainian U21s, actually managed to win the French Youth Invitational with them this season!
BP Style Rating: 47.33
Prediction: Certainly has the potential to become a decent player, but will need some improvement in every area. Perhaps a loan spell will see his development explode!?

  • Oscar Fredriksson
Y Fredriksson 21.png

Oscar Fredriksson | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Youth intake 2019
Prediction 2020: “Will probably get a few games here and there, but needs to develop in order to compete for a spot long-term”
Result: Got a lot less game time than last season, only managing 7 games for the first team. He did ok in these games, getting 3 assists and an average rating of 6.92.
Development: Really nice development with +1s in most attributes except for the +2s in First Touch, Marking, Passing, Concentration, Decisions, Determination, Vision, Acceleration, Balance and Strength.
BP Style Rating: 47.00 (Up 6.33)
Prediction: As predicted, he didn’t see a lot of first team football this season. Unfortunately considering the current squad situation, this seems to be the case for the up-coming season as well. He will most likely go out on loan, where he’ll need to prove his worth.

  • Styrmir Sigurjonsson
Y Sigurjonsson 20.png

Styrmir Sigurjonsson | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Breiðablik – Iceland (€160K) in 2020
Prediction 2020: “Shows potential but needs to work on his weaknesses”
Result: Spent the season on loan at Norwegian 2nd tier team Viking, playing 27 games but only managing a quite disappointing 6.79 average rating.
Development: Not great. A couple of +1s, but mostly unchanged. Standing out is a +6 in Determination and a -3 in Bravery
BP Style Rating: 43.67 (Up 3.00)
Prediction: Still far away from first team football. Will probably face a new loan spell.

Development phase 3 – 20-21 years old

Phase 3

Players in the 3rd stage of development

Berglund seems the best of the bunch as a very well-rounded player. No 21 year olds, meaning no true graduates coming out of the Academy this season.

  • Tarik Lugavic
Y Lugavic 21.png

Tarik Lugavic | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: German Third division side Aachen (€140K) in 2021.
Comment: A striker with a nice first touch and good finishing. Decent physicals but might need some work on his Perception!
BP Style Rating: 45.33
Prediction: Certainly has the potential to become a decent player, but will need some improvement in every area. Perhaps a loan spell will see his development explode!?

  • Charles Moses
Y Moses 20

Charles Moses | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Heartland – Nigeria (€170K) in 2019
Prediction 2020: “Might make an occasional appearance in the first team soon enough”
Result: Played 9 games for the first team with 1 goal and 1 assist and a decent 7.18 average rating.
Development: Unfortunately not a great deal of improvement. A couple of +1s here and there and a single +2 in Positioning.
BP Style Rating: 47.33 (Up 2.00)
Prediction: He hasn’t improved at the rate we were hoping for. Since we’ve strenghtened our midfield he will need to go out on loan to get some game-time next season.

  • Oscar Berglund
Y O Berglund 21.png

Oscar Berglund | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Allsvenskan side Öster (€750K) in 2021.
Comment: A well-rounded midfielder with a Professional personality. Lacks a bit of flair but seems decent enough. Commanded quite a hefty fee, hopefully he’ll surpass the high expectations! Played 19 games for the first team in 2021 with an average rating of 7.15.
BP Style Rating: 50.00
Prediction: Not actually bought as an Academy prospect but more or less as a player for the first team. Hopefully he’ll keep improving though, making him a player for the long run!

  • Hugo Zetterström
Y2 Zetterström 21.png

Hugo Zetterstrom | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Youth intake 2017
Prediction 2020: “He’ll be given a couple of seasons to improve his weaknesses”
Result: Played 25 games for our first team, with a decent average rating of 7.02.
Development: Kept on his decent development with many +1 improvements, +2s in First Touch, Concentration, Determination and Positioning and +3s in Composure and Vision.Managed to change his personality from Fairly Sporting to Fairly Professional.
BP Style Rating: 37.33 (Up 5.33)
New prediction: He really did work on his weaknesses, but still has a bit left in order to cope with the way we want to play ball. If he manages to keep improving he might become excellent, since he has all the defensive attributes needed.

  • Hervé Aka
Y Aka 21.png

Herve Aka | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Séwé FC – Ivory Coast (€70K) in 2019
Prediction 2020: “Less likely for him to get the chance at BP. Perhaps a new loan or a permanent move!?”
Result: Despite the above prediction he spent the 2020 season at BP with 20 starts and 11 games off the bench for us, with a respectable average rating of 7.18. Played 14+3 in 2021 with a disappointing average rating of 6.88.
Development: Not a great deal of improvement this season either. Most attributes unchanged or +1s, but two nice +2s in Determination and Strength.
BP Style Rating: 46.33 (Up 0.33)
Summary: Decent performance on the pitch in 2020 compared to the 2019 season, but still a disappointing lack of development in training. Got his share of games in 2021 but looked disappointing again. Sold to Turkish side Fenerbahce for 3.5M plus a 50% sell-on clause.

  • Amara Koné
Y Kone 20.png

Amara Kone | Brommapojkarna FM18

From: Africa Sports – Ivory Coast (€80K) in 2019
Prediction 2020: “Will probably continue as a back up or go out on loan”
Result: Came in off the bench in a couple of cup games before going out on loan to Allsvenskan side Sirius, where he scored 13 goals in 25 appearances, with an average rating of 7.06
Development: Not great this season either. Mostly unchanged with a couple of +1s.
BP Style Rating: 43.67 (Up 0.33)
New prediction: Isn’t improving as we hoped. Turns 21 during 2021 and is not good enough for our first team. Will go out on loan again or leave on a permanent deal.

We keep producing some serious talent. It’s nice to see that former Academy players form the foundation of the first team squad even though a lot of them has left for other clubs, both in and out of Sweden. Hopefully the amount of BP Academy players will rise in coming years! We have some pretty exciting talents on their way up!

Current Academy products in the first team squad: Seven. Lorshag (43), Zetterström (25), Kresojevic (38), Vestin (3), Niclas Berglund (27), Oscar Berglund (19) and Moses (9)

He spent the 2021 season on loan here at BP, but got sent back to the reserves when he returned to Monaco.

The next episode

In the next episode we will see how the team does in the 2022 season. Will we finally win the league? Will any of the Academy talents make their way into the first team? The only way to find out is by reading the next episode!

Thanks for the read, I hope you liked it as much as I did writing it!
