Review of our Key Players | Glenn Toussaint #5 | Football Manager 2018 Stories

Welcome to the fifth instalment of FMRookieGlenn’s Football Manager story with KRC Genk. In the previous post, we saw how successful Glenn Toussaint’s first year of management was. In this post we look at the players who made the year so successful. We had a great first season at KRC Genk and now it’s time to highlight our most important players of that season!

KRC Genk | Key Players from the 2017-2018 season

Joseph Aidoo

Joseph came to Genk in the summer of 2017 and was meant to be a back up to Brabec and Colley. But the young centre-back showed his potential early in pre-season, so I decided to give him the chance in the starting eleven to partner Colley. He didn’t let me down and quickly was the rock in the defence! He didn’t miss a single minute in the Belgian Pro League!

Sander Berge

I think everybody in Europe knows of Berge by now! In the summer he was heavily linked with a move to Sevilla and in the winter break Dortmund made several bids for him. But I wanted to keep him at all costs! It was time that we didn’t sell our best players, it was time to collect some silverware and we needed him for that! Sander was great as our box to box midfielder: he played 34 matches, scored 4 goals and made 2 assists. Now it’s important that we keep him with us for our European campaign!

Ruslan Malinovskyi

Our midfield mastermind! To tell you all how important he was for us, I only need to give you his stats of the season!

  • 39 games
  • 10 goals
  • 15 assists
  • 10x player of the match
  • Average Rating of 7.74

The man of the season for me and for the fans!

Mariano Barbieri

The only player that I brought in to the club myself that makes this list! When he first came to the club I thought he was going to be useful, but he was much more than that! He became an important player that could turn a dull, boring match in our favour! He played 37 matches, scored 14 times and provided 12 assists!

Marcus Ingvartsen

At this point, Marcus was the record signing of our board! The Danish striker came in with high expectations! In the first few matches he didn’t live up to them, but he grew in his role throughout the season! He was our number 1 striker and he scored 13 times in 34 matches! We are expecting great things from him in the future!

These were the players that stood out for me in the first season! I’m hoping they will continue to grow, and that they will give us the same joy as in the first season! Next year we will play in the Champions League and it will be a great platform for our young players to show themselves to the world!

Side note: The screenshots of the players are from the year 2019 as I erased my previous screens, sorry about that! See you all next time!
